Sounds of Saving announces the formation of its Youth Advisory Council
June 1, 2022
2022/2023 SoS YAC
We are excited to announce the formation of the Sound of Saving Youth Advisory Council – an inclusive cohort of college and high school students who will help guide the nonprofit’s core agenda of using connection to music as a tool to inspire greater mental wellbeing and suicide prevention. At this crucial time for youth mental health in the U.S, including young voices is especially important.
We are seeking students ages 15-25 who share our dual passions for music and mental wellbeing to join the growing Sounds of Saving (SoS) team as Youth Advisory Council members. Taking part in the Youth Advisory Council is voluntary, and we invite members to be part of the team for 1-year terms.
The broad goals of the SoS Youth Advisory Council:
- Inspire others within your peer network or school community to join the SoS Community and support our mission.
- Help guide the organization on topics and themes in music and mental health that are important to you and people your age.
- Help ensure the organization’s language and messaging resonates within youth culture and does not represent an “old school” approach to mental healthcare.
- Help plan SoS meetup events that help the group grow, which will include music and discussion elements.
Here are some of the specific ways you can be involved, but we welcome any creative actions not listed and this list is sure to grow!
- Take part in discussions about concerns and possible solutions for mental health in your peer and age group.
- Contribute to social media posts about music and mental health.
- Help us broaden our presence in diverse social media platforms, such as TikTok.
- Attend concerts of artists who have a perspective on mental health in their songs or interviews and write about and photograph the shows.
- Interview fans at concerts about their views on music and mental health.
- Write longer form pieces on topics you are passionate about in the music and youth mental health spaces.
- Help organize on-campus SoS events that can include music, discussion and education/resources.
- Create playlists that include music that helps you with your mental health or artists that seem to address mental health in their songs.
- Help create and compile materials that provide mental health education and resources for people your age.
- Advocate for mental health through your love of music: Represent SoS at concerts and festivals by distributing resources and chatting with other fans about the cause.
